Week 3 Pick ‘Ems

Saturday mornings with College GameDay on during the Fall is a staple at our house. Truth be told, my husband and I were both a little disappointed when Chris Fowler left the show and Rece Davis took over. Thankfully, Fowler is still calling big games with Herbie. Every season I soak in Coach Corso’s headgear wearing antics with dread that it could be his last season on the show. I love the banter between Des and Pollack. And I even love Herbie and his Ohio State lovin’ commentary. But one of my favorite parts of GameDay, besides the awesome signs in the crowd, is the weekly picks by Chris Fallica. More affectionately known as “Bear,” I love that he looks at the analytics of the players and games, and not just his alma mater or favorite teams. If I’m going to put money on a game, I always check to see what the Bear has to say.

So in the spirit of Chris Fallica’s picks, here are my week 3 picks, with a little commentary of course:

AUBURN over Mercer — hoping the offense takes advantage of this opportunity to get their squad more in sync, and no injuries to that potent defense.

USC over Texas — another great game to build Sam Darnold’s stats for the Heisman race.

LSU over Mississippi State — I think this game will be a close one, maybe down to the last possession. Nick Fitzgerald will test the young LSU defense. Etling will be on the run a lot, but I believe the next LSU RB hero, Derrius Guice will seal the deal for the Tigers.

CLEMSON over Louisville — Clemson is only picked to win by a field goal, and that could very well be accurate. Lamar Jackson will run into quite a defense and I think if anyone can slow him down, it’s the Tigers. The Clemson offense will have to pick up the pace from last week’s slow start against Auburn. If Lamar Jackson balls out and the Cardinals win, he is a shoe in for a 2nd Heisman in my opinion.

TENNESSEE over Florida — Florida is a 4.5 favorite at home over Tennessee, but I don’t think their offense has found their identity. I’m going out on a limb and picking the Vols, which is a hard decision on the road, but hoping Ol’ Rocky Top pulls this one out! The defensive line of Tennessee will be the deciding factor.

NOTRE DAME over Boston College — I don’t think the Fighting Irish will cover the two touchdown spread, but I also don’t think they’ll lose 2 weeks in a row.

MICHIGAN over Air Force — this is my potential upset of the week…I could see Air Force somehow jumping out and beating the Wolverines, but I’m going the safe route (sentiment aside) and picking Michigan.

VANDERBILT over Kansas State — I think the Commodore’s defense takes down the Wildcats of Manhattan. The Vandy D has only allowed 2 3rd down conversions in 26 attempts. At QB for Vandy, Kyle Shurmur has thrown 7 touchdowns with 0 interceptions and finally given the ‘Dores a more balanced offense.

OLE MISS over Cal — Shea Patterson finally comes into his own today against the Bears. A.J. Brown is incredibly hard to defend, and Cal’s mediocre D cannot handle the task today.

Happy Saturday folks!
