Fridays are about favorites over here at Pearls & Vodka. All the top headlines and thoughts of the week!
You know what that means…Happy Hour!
I’ve been a little bit of a slacker lately, but with good reason. The last edition of the P&V Happy Hour was almost a month ago! For shame! But hey, the Drake album I wrote about is still on my playlist, so there’s that! If you didn’t catch that post, go back and check it out.
I started a new job at the beginning of July! I’m loving it, and settling into a good rhythm.
Hopefully now you’ll be able to count on more daily content here at Pearls & Vodka.
Fridays at Pearls & Vodka are a celebration, so without further adieu, here’s this week’s edition of The Happy Hour…
Hymns & Hallelujahs
I heard a fantastic quote yesterday listening to the Annie F. Downs podcast, “That Sounds Fun.” Steffany Dawn was her guest and she mentioned this statement, “Instead of asking God ‘why’ ask Him who He wants to be for you in this moment.” I immediately texted one of my closest friends when I heard it. I just had to share it. And now I’m sharing it with you.
That’ll preach folks.
Do you ever sit and wonder what your life would look like if all your dreams came true? Do you wonder what your day-to-day would look like if your passion was your source of income? Do you wonder if your dreams “would work?” I do. A lot. There’ll be more to come on this, rest assured.
Preps & Pints
At the time I’m writing this post, there are 29 days, 3 hours and 19 minutes until college football season kicksoff. I’m not excited, clearly. It’s only my favorite time of the year. I’m excited to get back to my weekly top ten lists here on the blog, Saturday mornings watching College Game Day and Saturday afternoons/nights watching the Hogs, Auburn, and Clemson!
And let’s face it, whatever other good games are on!
I’m also really excited about Fantasy Football. It keeps me intrigued with the NFL, because if I’m being honest, all the theatrics, all the controversies, it really taints it for me. But if you know me at all, you know I love my Dallas Cowboys. And, I love competition, so my Fantasy Football Leagues are my favorite, yes, all three of them!
Bowties & Bourbon
I’d love to get back to a day when I can blog about politics and it not include the latest Trump scandal, or Tweet from the President. One day right? A girl can dream…
Michael Cohen, President Trump’s former attorney, appears to have flipped, be flipping, or flipped out. He secretly recorded conversations with the President while representing him and has now released those. Listen, I believe in innocent until proven guilty. I also believe if there’s enough smoke, there’s probably a fire. But come on man, recording your client, while under attorney-client privilege, and then releasing the tapes when things aren’t going your way. That’s crappy. I’d also like to say, half-jokingly, Cohen is lucky he worked from Trump and not the Clintons. Folks that flip on them have not lasted long on this Earth. Just saying. Kidding. Sort of. #RIP
Speaking of innocent until proven guitly, Congressman Jim Jordan of Ohio has announced he will seek Paul Ryan’s soon-to-be vacated Speaker’s seat. No big deal right? Well, about six months ago you would have been correct in that thought process. Except for one small problem, a sex scandal. More than 100 students have accused an Ohio State professor and team doctor of sexual abuse. Jordan, a former wrestling coach at the school, was pulled into the story after he was accused of knowing about the the doctor’s abuse and failing to do anything to stop it.
Are the accusations true? Who knows. But the GOP has not fared well with wrestling sex scandals, ala Dennis Hastert who also use to be the Speaker of the House under the Republican control of Congres.
Come on Republicans. We are better than this. We are better than everything we have been since 2016. And I do still say “we.” With a grimmace on my face, but I do still say it.
Prosecco & Pretties
In this week’s edition of my favorite things I wrote about the Texture app. I love it, I use the heck out of it. You can check out the post here.
I also wanted to give a shoutout to another product I love:
The “May Box” from Mica May Designs. As always, I don’t have any sponsored content, I’m not being paid for this add. I just really love Mica’s designs and I love hearing from her on various podcasts that I follow. She’s just one of those salt of the Earth, genuinely good people. And her stuff is awesome! So the “May Box” is her new subscription based monthly product delivery.
“Each box will be exclusively designed with all our favorite products, inspiring you to plan, dream and live your best life! The May Box will be packed full of carefully curated planner goodies designed just for our subscribers. Just like a great hair day, we want The May Box to be something that you look forward to month after month.”
Y’all her stuff is adorable. There are three price-points: $35/month for a 12 month subscription, $37/month for a 6 month subscription and $40/month for a month-to-month subscription.
Truth be told, it’s not in our budget right now…hey Mica, if you are listening, I’m happy to do a monthly shout out, review of the products for a subscription! Just saying, never hurts to ask right!
I love organizational tools and Mica’s stuff is beautiful, so go subscribe today!
Seersucker & Sangria
Hi, my name is Mandy and I am a podcast addict.
If you aren’t listening to “Armchair Expert” podcast with Dax Shepherd what are you even doing with your life? I love Dax. He’s fantastic. I love that he’s authentic and raw. His latest episode with Mila Kunis is amazing, check it out here.
In other news, I was super sad to hear about Demi Lovato’s overdose. I was thankful to read she is going to be OK and is going back to rehab. I’ve always loved Demi. I think she’s super talented, beautiful and I pray that this incident will catapult her to a forever period of sobriety.
Addictions are ugly and hard and celebrities are humans just like all of us.
That’s all I’ve got for you fine folks today. A little taste of everything I like to write about, a little Jesus, a little “musings,” a little sports, a little politics, a little “favorite things,” and a little entertainment.
Have a great weekend, enjoy your friends and family and be kind to one another!
