Who had the biggest win in college football this weekend?

WAR EAGLE!!! And all the college football fans from Auburn said, “AMEN!”

I promise I will write about more than the Auburn game today in this top ten list, but dang, how about those Tigers!?!?

On to the other games…

College Football Recap-Top 10 Thoughts

10- This Iowa State program is something else. I have a feeling there will be some schools looking at Coach Matt Campbell this off season. Clearly there are some job openings already out there. Mason Rudolph is a good quarterback. I really think if Coach Grundy would cut his mullet the Cowboys would do better. Rudoiph threw for 376 yards and three touchdowns, two of which came in the final six minutes of the game to beat the Cyclones from Ames, Iowa. Justice Hill ran for only 134 yards but that’s all it took to score three touchdowns.

9- Here’s the thing about Urban Meyer, you NEVER want to play him the week after a big loss. Michigan State was the unlucky victim this weekend. The Buckeyes came out fast and strong, scoring five of their first six possessions. J.T. Barrett threw two touchdown passes and ran for two more. Mike Weber ran two in as well for Ohio State. The Spartans were coming off an emotional win over Penn State last week and were left to deal with the revenge of the Buckeyes, not a good combo and the final score of 48-3 showed that.

8- The SEC East just never compares to the West anymore. I really think we need a restructuring of the Conference, at best. In the battle of mediocrity between the Gamecocks of South Carolina and the depleted Gators of Florida, Will Muschamp came out on top. South Carolina has been in the SEC for 26 years, this will only be their 8th winning season, it’s really that ridiculous in the East. Jake Bentley threw for three interceptions and ran for two touchdowns. But then again, the boosters of South Carolina knew they were getting a defensive-minded coach in Muschamp, not an offensive genius. Florida lost their head coach two weeks ago and has since lost by 29 to Missouri and by 8 to South Carolina. This will be Florida’s third time in 31 years to miss a bowl game.

7- North Carolina State rebounded from two tough losses to take down Boston College in a close one. AJ Dillion set a school-freshman record for going over 1000 yards for the BC Eagles. BC lost their starting quarterback in the second quarter but somehow still had a chance to win. A bad snap spoiled their chances for a game tying field goal. For the first time in seven seasons, the Wolfpack has notched five conference wins.

6- Iowa took down THE Ohio State last week but they were demolished by the Badgers of Wisconsin this weekend. Wisconsin remains undefeated on the shoulders of an incredibly stout defense. The Badger offense is very consistent with turnovers, suffering from four this week. Wisconsin’s Hornibrook has now thrown 11 interceptions in Big 10 play.

5- Ajene Harris intercepted two passes, including one returned for a touchdown. And Sam Darnold tossed two touchdowns and ran another one in while USC clinched the Pac-12 South title. The win yesterday over Colorado takes Darnold to 18-3 as a starter.

4- Mississippi State came out guns blazing on defense, but Jalen Hurts never flinched. Hurts threw two touchdown passes with less than a minute remaining to keep Alabama undefeated. The Crimson Tide defense did not play their usual game, but Nick Saban found a way to win, again, as usual.

3- Missouri beat Tennessee 50-17. Yes, you read that correctly. And rightfully so, Butch Jones was fired today. It’s been a long time coming if you ask me. It will be interesting to see who ends up on Rocky Top. Whoever it is, it can’t be much worse than Jones. They lost a lot of recruits with this morning’s announcement, but the alma mater of Peyton Manning will find a way to win a few more back. Speaking of folks being out of a job, Bret Bielema needs to be in the same position. LSU stomped all over Arkansas and the loss was capped off by quarterback Cole Kelley getting arrested this morning. Fire Long. Fire Bielema. Bring in new blood. Arkansas fans are tired of mediocrity, just like Tennessee fans.

2- People have been saying Miami is a fluke. They whooped the Fighting Irish pretty soundly yesterday. Malik Rosier threw for a touchdown and ran for another. Travis Homer ran for 146 yards and Deejay Dallas had a pair of touchdown runs as well. Mark Richt is doing Mark Richt type of things in Miami, hopefully he has found a way to close the deal.

How about those Tigers?

1- The number one team in the country came to the Plains of Alabama and lost. Handedly. To none other than my Auburn Tigers. Kerryon Johnson ran for 167 yards and caught a 55 yard pass as well. The Auburn defense put on quite a show holding Nick Chubb and Sony Michel to only 46 yards, 233 below their season average. Jarrett Stidham lived up to the hype throwing for 214 yards and three touchdowns, while running one in as well. Auburn would be crazy to let go of Gus Malzahn! His team is just coming together. Speaking of Tigers that are loved by the Asberry family, Clemson won the ACC Atlantic title yesterday with a 31-14 win over Florida State. Clemson looks a little sketchier than Dabo would like on offense, but that defense could carry them a long way in the playoofs.
